The best AI chatbot for a Shopify webshop in the Netherlands or Belgium in 2027 is one that reads the order, not only the FAQ. Our pick is SimplyBoost: it shows order status after a verification step, starts returns your team approves and suggests products from the live catalogue. For WooCommerce or Lightspeed order lookups without a developer, Watermelon fits better; five more tools follow with the buyer each suits.
This list is for the e-commerce or IT manager who has to choose the tool, connect it to the helpdesk and defend it in an audit. Disclosure: Crux Digits publishes this list and SimplyBoost is listed first. We say why, and who the others are better for. SimplyBoost is our own product, built by the team behind Crux Digits.
How did we choose the chatbots on this list?
We checked every tool on its own website on 29 October 2026 against five criteria, and kept only claims we could read there.
- Order data: does it read orders from Shopify, WooCommerce or Lightspeed, or only uploaded pages?
- Verification: does it check that the person asking owns the order?
- Money: do refunds and cancellations follow rules you set?
- Handover: does a conversation reach your helpdesk or team with the transcript attached?
- Price: is a price published, and in which billing unit?
This is not a ranking beyond our own pick: entries after ours are alphabetical. We give no scores or ratings, because we measured none. No vendor paid to appear and there are no affiliate links.
Which AI chatbot is best for a Shopify webshop in 2027?
For most Shopify webshops our pick is SimplyBoost, because it handles the order questions themselves at a flat monthly price.
Disclosure: Crux Digits publishes this list and SimplyBoost is listed first. We say why, and who the others are better for. SimplyBoost is our own product, built by the team behind Crux Digits.
Its Shopify documentation describes it. With the order number and the email on the order, a customer sees status and tracking in the chat; asking by email alone, they first enter a six-digit code sent to that address. Products are read live from Shopify, so answers come from the current description, variants and stock, and the agent can build a cart and send a checkout link. For returns it collects the item and the reason and creates a return request in Shopify that your team approves.
Self-serve actions stay off until you switch them on: cancelling an unfulfilled order, changing an address before shipping, and an exchange in another size or colour at the same price. Refunds and discounts are proposals your team approves, or small refunds run on their own up to a ceiling you set, with a daily limit per customer.
The same agent answers on website chat, WhatsApp and Instagram, replies in the language the customer writes in, and hands over by opening a Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk ticket with the conversation, or a Slack thread. The published prices are €39, €89 and €169 a month for 500, 2,000 and 6,000 AI replies, with no per-seat fees. The Shopify store assistant, order lookups included, starts on Growth at €89 (webshop overview, plans and billing).
Where it is weaker: there is no built-in order connector for WooCommerce or Lightspeed, it does not send broadcast campaigns, the widget's own buttons are in English even when the replies are Dutch or French (widget docs), and it is not a full helpdesk with email queues and voice. Best for: a Shopify webshop whose tickets are mostly order status, returns, address changes and product choice, with customers on WhatsApp and Instagram too.
What if your webshop runs on WooCommerce or Lightspeed?
Then SimplyBoost answers from your content but needs extra work for order lookups; Watermelon lists ready-made connectors for both.
SimplyBoost installs on WooCommerce through its WordPress plugin, and elsewhere with a script snippet or Google Tag Manager (install routes), then answers from your pages, PDFs and policies. For order lookups it offers actions: calls to an endpoint of your own, with an order number collected in the chat. Someone has to build and secure that endpoint: your developer, your ICT partner or us.
Watermelon's integrations page lists Shopify, WooCommerce, Lightspeed, Magento 2, BigCommerce and Shopware 6. Its Lightspeed page says customers can check their order status through the AI agent, and its WooCommerce page says the agent retrieves product and order data during conversations. Trengo lists a Lightspeed (e-Series) integration, but that page does not say whether its AI agent can look up Lightspeed orders, so test it before you rely on it.
Our rule of thumb: if where-is-my-order is your largest ticket type and you run Lightspeed or WooCommerce, start with a tool that has the connector. If most tickets are product and policy questions, your content matters more than the platform.
Which other chatbots are the better choice for some webshops?
Six tools fit specific webshops better than our pick; they are listed alphabetically and described from their own websites.
- Gorgias (gorgias.com). An ecommerce helpdesk with an AI agent, listing Shopify, Shopify Plus and WooCommerce. On Shopify its AI agent actions can cancel an unfulfilled order with a full refund, edit a shipping address the shopper confirms, replace an item and reship an order for free. With the AI agent, plans start at $40 a month, include 30 automated interactions on Starter and Basic, then charge $1.50 per interaction. Best for: a Shopify brand whose team still answers many tickets by hand and wants helpdesk and AI in one tool.
- Intercom with Fin (fin.ai). Fin costs $0.99 per outcome; next to an existing helpdesk such as Salesforce or Zendesk the minimum is $49 a month, including 50 outcomes. The Shopify integration gives Fin order details such as status and billing address; refunds, cancellations and address changes are done by teammates from the inbox. Best for: a larger support organisation that wants AI priced per outcome on top of its current helpdesk.
- Tidio with Lyro (tidio.com). Live chat with an AI agent called Lyro: a free plan, Starter at $24.17 a month, and Lyro from $32.50 a month for 50 conversations. Its Shopify order-status action asks for an email and order ID and works on all plans, the free one included. Best for: a small Shopify shop that wants live chat and basic order status at the lowest entry price.
- Trengo (trengo.com). A Dutch customer contact platform, per its own press release from Utrecht. Boost costs €299 a month billed yearly with 10 users, Pro €499 with 20 users, and each conversation with an AI surcharge €0.25 on yearly terms. Its Shopify help article says the AI agent looks up orders by order number and email, plus return and refund information. Best for: a team of ten or more working one shared inbox across email, WhatsApp and social, with AI on top.
- Watermelon (watermelon.ai). A Dutch AI agent from Watermelon B.V. in Utrecht, according to its own site. Starter costs €99 a month for 250 conversations, Advanced €199 for 500, Business €399 for 1,000, plus €25 per extra 250. Best for: a Lightspeed or WooCommerce webshop that wants order status in the chat without building an endpoint.
- Zendesk (zendesk.com). A service platform whose AI agents are billed per automated resolution: a request the AI resolves without escalation to a person. Pay-as-you-go is US$2.00 per resolution, and Suite Team costs US$55 per agent per month paid yearly. Best for: a retailer already on Zendesk across brands and countries that wants the AI inside it.

Which actions should a webshop chatbot take without a person?

Reading is safe to automate after verification; anything that moves money should wait for a person until you have a month of logs.
This is our own rule. Sort each action into one of five rungs before you switch it on:
- Read, no verification: product questions, stock, delivery times, the returns policy. Source: catalogue and policy pages.
- Read, after verification: order status, tracking, refund status. Require the order number plus the email on the order, or a code sent to that email.
- Write, reversible, before fulfilment: address change, cancelling an unfulfilled order, an exchange at the same price. Switch on per action and log each one.
- Money: refunds, discounts, price differences. A proposal plus approval, or an auto-approve ceiling with a daily limit per customer.
- Not in the chatbot: any change the shop platform cannot pass on to your warehouse.
Teams miss rung five. Gorgias's documentation says its cancellations and address edits happen only in Shopify and are not passed to 3PLs or fulfilment apps. If your warehouse picks from its own WMS, an address changed in Shopify alone can still ship to the old address. Returns need the same care: under EU rules a consumer who buys online can withdraw within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason (Your Europe), so the chatbot must never quote a shorter window.
What does a webshop chatbot cost per month at 1,500 conversations?
On published prices the AI part costs €169 to about US$1,800 a month at that volume; the billing unit explains most of the gap.
Example, with assumptions: 1,500 conversations a month, three AI replies each (4,500 replies), and 900 resolved by the AI without a person.
- SimplyBoost: 4,500 AI replies fit the Pro plan, €169 a month. An AI reply is one answer on any channel; your team's replies do not count (plans).
- Watermelon: Business includes 1,000 conversations for €399; 500 more cost 2 × €25, so €449.
- Trengo: Pro includes 1,500 conversations a month for €499 on yearly billing; with the AI surcharge on every conversation, add 1,500 × €0.25: €874, including 20 users and a team inbox.
- Intercom Fin: 900 outcomes × $0.99, so $891, on top of your existing helpdesk.
- Zendesk: 900 automated resolutions × US$2.00 pay-as-you-go, so US$1,800 before seats and the resolutions each plan includes.
Gorgias bundles the helpdesk with included interactions and a $1.50 overage fee; run your own volume through its page.
This example flatters our own product; read it that way. SimplyBoost prices the AI agent and hands over to a helpdesk you keep, while Trengo, Zendesk and Gorgias prices also buy the helpdesk. Each vendor counts a different unit: a reply, a conversation, an outcome, a resolution or an interaction. At low volume the free plans of Tidio and Watermelon cost less than any of them. Recalculate with your own December.
What do the AI Act and the GDPR require of a webshop chatbot?
Since 2 August 2026, Article 50 of the AI Act requires that customers learn at the first interaction that they are talking to AI.
The Commission's FAQ confirms the date; its only grace period, to 2 December 2026, covers machine-readable marking under Article 50(2), not the chatbot disclosure. In practice: one line in the opening message on every channel.
Under the GDPR the chatbot vendor processes names, email addresses and order data on your behalf, so the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens says you must conclude a processor agreement (verwerkersovereenkomst) with it. SimplyBoost publishes a pre-signed DPA built on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (2021/914), with its sub-processors listed. Ask every vendor for this document before a trial touches real orders.
For Belgian customers, SimplyBoost answers a French question in French from your Dutch or English content. Check those French returns answers against your French terms and conditions.
How do you test a webshop chatbot before you sign?
Run last month's real tickets through a trial, because every tool on this list answers its own demo questions well.
- Export one month of tickets from your helpdesk and tag the twenty most frequent questions.
- Ask all twenty in the trial in Dutch and, if you sell in Belgium, in French.
- Ask about an order that is not yours. The tool must refuse until you verify.
- Ask to change the address on an order that has already shipped. It must hand over.
- Trigger a handover and check that the ticket lands in your helpdesk with the transcript attached.
- Recalculate the monthly price for your busiest month, not your average one.
SimplyBoost's trial gives 7 days and 100 AI replies, enough for twenty questions in two languages plus the edge cases; Tidio and Watermelon have free plans.
When should a webshop have its chatbot built instead?
When the answer lives in an ERP, a WMS or a B2B portal instead of the shop platform, a product cannot read it. The integration becomes the project.
Typical cases: delivery dates from a WMS rather than Shopify, customer-specific B2B prices in AFAS or Exact, warranty claims in a separate system, or one chatbot across several shop platforms after an acquisition. That is where Crux Digits fits. We design and build the AI part and its connections at fixed prices: an AI audit at €2,500, a Production-ready MVP at €20,000 and production from €50,000, excluding VAT, with the code handed over to you. We work alongside your ICT partner, who keeps running your infrastructure, in English and Dutch, from Utrecht. If the questions can be answered from Shopify and your own content, SimplyBoost is the shorter route, and we will say so.
