AI consultant for Flemish SMEs

Crux Digits advises Flemish SMEs on where AI pays off, then builds and runs the software, at fixed prices and from the Utrecht region, about two hours from Antwerp. This page sets out what works differently in Belgium in 2026: the kmo-portefeuille, the AI Act supervisor, the works council and e-invoicing.

In short

Belgian companies already use AI more than Dutch ones: 34.5% against 33.2% in 2025, with an EU average of 20.0% (Eurostat). What a Flemish SME needs is not an introduction but a project that holds up under Belgian rules. Since 1 February 2026 the kmo-portefeuille no longer funds AI advice, only training and cybersecurity advice; the AI Act transparency duties apply from 2 August 2026, with the BIPT as the Belgian supervisor; and CAO no. 39 asks you to inform and consult the works council before introducing technology with collective consequences. Crux Digits works in three fixed steps: an AI audit at €2,500, a Production-ready MVP at €20,000 and production from €50,000, excl. VAT, with all code handed over.

How we work

Working with Crux Digits from Utrecht

We are a Dutch AI consultancy and software company founded in 2022, working in Dutch and English. Discovery sessions and go-lives happen on site in Flanders; the build runs remotely with a fixed weekly rhythm. In Belgium we built a licence plate recognition proof of concept for the Municipality of Antwerpen. Before you commit to anything, the EU AI Act risk checker shows which duties apply to your system, and our Flemish guides go deeper on kmo-portefeuille and VLAIO support, the AI Act for Flemish SMEs and what Peppol leaves to automate.

Cost

Production, from €50,000: integrated, monitored and handed over, including all source code. All prices excl. VAT. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Crux Digits work for Belgian companies?

Yes. We work for Flemish SMEs from the Utrecht region, on site for discovery and go-live and remotely for the build, in Dutch or English. Invoicing is in euros with the VAT reverse-charged for Belgian businesses.

Does the kmo-portefeuille cover AI consultancy?

Not since 1 February 2026. The advice pillar was abolished except for cybersecurity advice. AI training still qualifies, at 30% for small and 20% for medium-sized companies up to €7,500 support a year, provided the training provider is registered for the kmo-portefeuille.

Who supervises the AI Act in Belgium?

The BIPT is Belgium's lead market surveillance authority for the AI Act, with FOD Economie coordinating. The Article 50 transparency duties apply from 2 August 2026; the Annex III high-risk requirements from 2 December 2027.

Do we need to involve the works council?

When the AI changes work organisation or employment with collective consequences, CAO no. 39 requires informing and consulting the works council, in principle before introduction. We build that step into the project plan.

How is VAT handled when a Dutch company invoices us?

For B2B services the VAT is normally reverse-charged to the Belgian customer, so our invoice shows both VAT numbers and no Dutch VAT. Your accountant confirms the treatment for your situation.

What does an AI project cost for a Flemish SME?

Our fixed steps are an AI audit at €2,500, a Production-ready MVP at €20,000 and production from €50,000, excl. VAT, with all code handed over. The audit states the expected return in your own numbers before anything is built.
