AI agency alternatives in the Netherlands

Most comparison pages rank agencies. That is not useful, because these firms are not doing the same job. This page sorts the sixteen most-shortlisted names in the Dutch market by what they actually sell, so you can tell whether the firm in front of you is even the right shape for your problem.

In short

The firms on your shortlist are not interchangeable, and the differences are structural rather than a matter of quality. Dutch AI suppliers fall into six shapes: awareness and training (ai.nl, DataNorth), data platform first (Xomnia, Cmotions, Humention, Data Pebbles), enterprise scale (Xebia), cloud and platform engineering (TrueFullstaq), productised assistants (AI Services Nederland), and custom build (MSTR, Manevro, Refreshworks, Zedrox, Ploko, Crux Digits). Match the shape to your problem before you compare proposals.

Method

How this comparison was made

Every firm below was read on its own website on 2 September 2026: the homepage, the about page and the services pages. We describe each firm the way it describes itself, and we say plainly where we could not check something.

First question

Work out what you are actually buying

Nearly every disappointing AI engagement we hear about started as a mismatch of shape, not a failure of skill. A firm that sells awareness delivered awareness. A firm that builds data platforms built a data platform. Both did their job; neither solved the process that was costing money.

Before you compare two proposals, decide which of these you need this quarter.

Awareness

Training, keynotes and getting the room to agree

ai.nl describes itself as the Dutch specialist in artificial intelligence, working since 2018, and its site leads with keynotes, practical workshops and hands-on consultancy. It states on its own pages that it has helped over 500 organisations and delivered more than 175 keynotes. Best for: moving a board or a department from scepticism to a decision, quickly.

DataNorth publishes the widest ladder of the group: an Inspire tier (AI demo, webinar, hiring a speaker), a Learn tier (training, workshop, hackathon), an Advise tier (consulting, strategy, assessment) and a Create tier (hire an AI team, proof of concept, development and implementation). It also publishes a CO2 compensation programme run with Trees for All. Best for: buyers who want one supplier from first demo through to a built system, or who want to embed a team rather than commission a project.

Foundations

Data platform and analytics first

Xomnia leads with the line "we make AI work" and lists data and AI strategies, cloud-based data platforms, data AI products, agentic AI and an EU cloud offering. Best for: organisations that genuinely need the platform built properly before any model is worth training.

Cmotions lists data strategy, data science, AI, data engineering, data management and analytics, runs its own Academy, and names Power BI and AFAS work on its site. It states it is part of The Digital Neighborhood. Best for: analytics and BI maturity with training alongside it, particularly in an AFAS or Power BI estate.

Humention frames its work as "revolutionizing data and AI through people" and covers data engineering, BI and conversational AI with an explicitly people-centred approach. Best for: organisations where adoption and change are the real risk rather than the model.

Data Pebbles positions on enterprise AI systems, strategy and agentic workflows, with a stated emphasis on AI that is cost-aware, explainable, maintainable and under your control. Its site names procurement and logistics as focus industries. Best for: enterprise agentic workflows, especially in procurement.

Scale

Enterprise programmes and international footprint

Xebia leads with "shaping tomorrow with AI today" and spans artificial intelligence, intelligent automation, cloud and data, products and platforms, plus a training arm. It states on its site that it is an OpenAI Select Partner, and it operates internationally. Best for: multi-country programmes, formal governance and procurement processes that expect a large supplier on the other side of the table. If your procurement department requires a vendor of a certain size, this is the shape that clears it.

Platform

Cloud and platform engineering, which is a different job

TrueFullstaq is worth separating out because buyers sometimes shortlist it against AI agencies when the work is not comparable. Its site covers private, public, hybrid and sovereign cloud, managed Kubernetes, cloud adoption and migration, DevOps, and security audits, and it lists ISO and NEN hosting along with an ISAE 3402 type II statement. It states it is part of The Digital Neighborhood. Best for: the platform underneath the model. If your blocker is where the workload runs and how it is certified, this is the right supplier and an AI boutique is not.

Products

When buying beats building

AI Services Nederland sells named, packaged assistants rather than bespoke builds: its site lists a CAO assistant, a mortgage assistant, a policy-conditions assistant, conversation intelligence, and sales and website assistants, alongside a knowledge platform and a reseller programme. Best for: a common, well-defined use case where a working product today beats a bespoke build in eight weeks. If one of those assistants matches your process, buying it is the rational choice and we would tell you so.

Build

Custom builds, and how they differ from each other

MSTR presents AI consultancy, product development and SaaS development, structured as three services matched to where an organisation already stands. Best for: buyers who want product and SaaS development alongside the advice.

Manevro works under the banner "innovation as a service", offers a free AI scan, and publishes client cases including Lefebvre Sdu and Vitalize with Ological, with an emphasis on micro-tools and platforms. Best for: design-led innovation work and small tools built quickly.

Refreshworks, based in Den Haag, positions as an AI business transformation partner, covering AI research, strategy and roadmap, AI literacy, data and AI governance, use-case identification, implementation management and upskilling, with sector pages for HR, customer service, finance, recruitment, ecommerce, real estate, education, hospitality and logistics. Best for: an organisation-wide literacy and governance programme rather than a single build.

Zedrox is a Rotterdam software company working in the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. Its site lists AI development, consulting, chatbots, generative AI, automation and agentic AI, next to custom software, web apps, MVPs, API integrations, e-commerce platforms and cybersecurity services. Best for: a custom software build where AI is one component of a larger application.

Ploko is an online marketing bureau that has added AI: its site covers webdesign, SEO, Google Ads, social and conversion optimisation, alongside AI agents, custom chatbots, AI content generation and marketing automation, plus its own products including a content platform and a quotation tool. Best for: an SME buying marketing, website and AI from one supplier.

The AI Automation Agency sells a done-for-you package, stating a plan, build and deploy cycle within 90 days and a money-back guarantee. Its published contact number is a United Kingdom line, which matters if you need on-site work or a Dutch contracting entity. Best for: fast packaged automation where remote delivery is fine.

Unverified

Three we could not check

Bureau Tromp, Syntouch and Automatiseert.nl are on our tracking list, but on 2 September 2026 none of the three returned a readable page: two did not respond and one returned a server error. We make no claim about their current positioning, pricing or focus. If you are considering them, read their sites yourself rather than trusting any list, including this one.

Where we fit

Where Crux Digits is the wrong choice

We are a small senior team in Nieuwegein, working across the Utrecht region and the rest of the Netherlands, and we publish our prices. That shape suits some buyers and not others.

Pick someone else when: you need a multi-country programme with enterprise governance behind it, you have no data platform yet and need one built before any model makes sense, a productised assistant already covers your use case, your real problem is Kubernetes and cloud rather than AI, or what you actually need this quarter is a keynote that moves a boardroom.

Pick us when: you have one process that is measurably costing you, you want a fixed price before the work starts, you want the senior person who scoped it to build it, and you want the code, the documentation and the accounts handed over at the end.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which AI agency in the Netherlands is the best?

There is no single answer, and any page that gives you one is selling something. The firms differ by shape rather than by quality: awareness and training, data platform engineering, enterprise programmes, cloud platform work, packaged products, and custom builds. Decide which of those you need this quarter, then compare only the firms in that group.

Is a small agency riskier than a large one?

The risks are different rather than larger. A large firm gives you continuity, procurement comfort and formal governance, and typically staffs your project with people more junior than the ones who sold it. A small senior team gives you the person who scoped the work, and carries key-person risk. Ask both who writes the code and what you own at the end.

What should an AI project cost in the Netherlands?

Published prices are rare in this market, which is why comparing them is hard. We publish three fixed prices on our own pricing page. Where another firm does not publish, ask for a fixed price against a written scope rather than a day rate, because a day rate transfers all the estimating risk to you.

How current is this comparison?

Every firm here was read on its own website on 2 September 2026, and the page states where a site did not respond. Positioning in this market changes quickly, so treat anything older than a few months as a starting point and check the source site before you shortlist.

Not sure which shape you need?

Tell us the process that is costing you and we will say plainly whether we are the right supplier for it. If we are not, we will tell you who is.
